Setting up WhatsApp: what you do, and what UpMarket does

The WhatsApp setup steps you complete in Meta vs. the parts UpMarket handles, plus fixing the Meta billing banner.

WhatsApp guest messaging runs on Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform. Getting it live is a shared task: a few steps must be done by you, inside your own Meta account, and UpMarket can't do them on your behalf.

What you set up (in Meta)

  1. A Facebook account and a business portfolio in Meta Business Suite.

  2. A WhatsApp Business account.

  3. Complete Meta's business verification.

  4. Add a payment method / billing details in Meta. Meta bills you directly for WhatsApp conversations — this is the most commonly missed step.

What UpMarket does

Once the above is in place, UpMarket uploads your message templates, and verifies the account is ready for day-to-day use.

How to start

In the sidebar, open WhatsApp Numbers and follow the in-app guide to connect your number. Full walkthrough: Seamless WhatsApp integration in UpMarket.

Fixing a Meta "billing problem" banner

If you see a billing-problem warning blocking your templates, the payment method on your Meta account needs attention. In Meta:

  1. Open your Business Portfoliobusiness.facebook.com/settings/payment-methods

  2. Go to Billing & Payments → Payment Methods.

  3. Click Add Payment Method, add your card, and save.

💡 This banner often appears only once real reservations start flowing, even if everything looked complete the day before — Meta only flags a pending payment method once messages actually need to be sent.
